Radler Beer Cocktail
The Radler is a drink popular in Austria and other German-speaking countries. It is a mix of beer and lemonade or lemon soda that hits the spot during hot summer afternoons. This version combines a light, crisp lager and your own homemade lemon soda with fresh lemon juice. It is sure to be a hit at your next cookout!
Yield: 2 servings
Preparation time: 15 minutes
4 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice*
2 ounces simple syrup**
6 ounces club soda or seltzer, cold
12 ounces lager beer, cold
Lemon slices, for garnish*
To make the lemon soda, stir together the lemon juice and simple syrup in a small pitcher. Pour in the club soda. Stir.
Pour 6 ounces of the lemon soda into each of two beer glasses. Add 6 ounces of beer to each glass. Stir and serve with lemon slices.
*We recommend using lemons and limes from Paramount Citrus. They are consistently fresh and juicy and available at most major grocery, mass and club retailers.
**To make your own simple syrup, add 1 cup of water and 2 cups of sugar to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup thickens. Cool and keep in an airtight jar to use in all your summer drinks.
